Chambourcin Reserve – Hiddencroft Vineyards
A Study in Time and Oak
Wine Description

This Chambourcin Reserve represents another chapter in Hiddencroft’s ongoing exploration of how extended barrel aging shapes a wine’s character. While most red wines spend months — or perhaps a few years — in oak, this wine rested quietly in neutral barrels for seven and a half years, developing depth, harmony, and refinement that cannot be hurried.
Neutral oak does not impose its own flavor. Instead, it allows the wine to evolve naturally, softening its edges and weaving its elements together. The result is a Chambourcin that speaks less of youth and more of maturity — layered, composed, and complete.
This reserve stands alongside its earlier-released siblings from the same vintage, offering a rare opportunity to experience how time alone can create an entirely different wine.
We are not disappointed.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep garnet with subtle brick-red tones at the rim, reflecting its extended aging.
Aroma
Rich aromas of blackberry and blueberry are layered with notes of dark chocolate and a hint of spice.
Palate
Silky and smooth, with softened tannins and a beautifully integrated structure. Flavors of dark berries unfold across the palate, supported by gentle earth and cocoa undertones developed during its long rest in barrel.
Finish
Long and refined, with a distinctive touch of white pepper and lingering dark fruit.
Mouthfeel
Exceptionally smooth and supple, with a graceful texture that comes only from time.
Winemaker’s Reflection
This wine is part of an intentional experiment — to understand how patience transforms Chambourcin. Extended aging in neutral oak allows the wine to mature without interference, revealing nuance and complexity impossible to achieve otherwise.
It is both a continuation of our past work and a glimpse into future possibilities.
